With great inspiration from Jesse Locks (@jesselocks) and the See Jane Do (@seejanedo) crew, my newspaper (@theunion) is sponsoring a Grass Valley / Nevada City tweetup (#nctweetup) 6-8 p.m. June 17 at Broad Street Bistro in Nevada City, Calif. It’ll be the first local tweetup of its kind, sponsored by some major players in the area.
See Jane Do, which hosts a local radio program on KVMR, beat me to the punch by getting down to the Sactweetup a few weeks ago. They recorded a program about the event and social media in general which you can hear here.
This will be a fun, local twist on a sensation going on across the country. Think mixer and networking event. It’ll give folks who come an opportunity to put some faces to some names and ask questions of folks on the local media’s traditional scene as well as new media scene.
I had planned to host an event of this type for awhile after a conversation with Brenda Horton (@brendahorton). She recently had a social media session on Twitter with local business leaders and is a rising star in the social media landscape. But Jesse Locks got the ball rolling on this one, hooking Marsha Lanier (@MarshaLanier) in as the main speaker and securing the Broad Street Bistro (thanks a million).
I’ll be doing my part for promotion and publicity. I hope folks who follow me in the area will be gracious enough to attend. Now mark the date:
